Colors and textures from Alex’s retro Cadillac come to life in his latest footwear release.
Note: No Animals Were Harmed During the Creation of This Collection

Vans is excited to partner with longtime pro surfer and Costa Mesa native Alex Knost, bringing to life his creative vision of one of the oldest designs in the brand’s archive, the Style 36 Decon SF.

Always pushing the boundaries of creative expression, most recently spotlighted in his latest film Tan Madonna, Alex’s offbeat take on this classic 1977 Vans silhouette is no surprise. Inspired by the colors and materials found in his 5th generation, ‘80s Coupe de VilleCadillac, this shoe came to life under Alex’s artistic eye; as such, the Style 36 Decon SF has undergone some serious upgrades, including a glossy, vegan patent leather in a bitter chocolate colorway, for an entirely new and original take on this classic silhouette.

The collection also includes the Sk8-Hi 138 Decon SF in the Alex Knost dress blues colorway. Both styles are complete with a timeless natural gum vulcanized sole, and Vans’ UtlraCush insole, upping the ante on comfort.

A part of the Vans family since 2005, Alex is most commonly recognized for his eclectic style, both in and out of the water. From making art and collaborating with fashion labels, to creating music with his band, Tomorrow’s Tulips, and handcrafting his own boards through his personal label, he has a deep influence that extends beyond surfing alone.

Alex’s focus consistently lands on deepening his creative connection to the sport – and is justly reflected in this latest collaboration.

Vans’ Surf Boot Hi

Everything We Know About Skateboarding, In A Surf Boot

By tapping into high-performance technology developed for the needs of its renowned surf team, Vans is proud to release its latest take on a surf essential. The Surf Boot Hi incorporates everything the brand knows about skateboarding into a surf boot, with a focus on board-feel and grip and an unwavering commitment to progression and creative originality.

The Surf Boot Hi, developed through Vans’ unique “Off The Wall’ mentality and innovative experimentation, makes a crucial companion in chilly climates. A liquid-rubber-dipped upper delivers more resilient seams, while neoprene provides additional warmth. The boots’ gum-rubber outsole with waffle sipe – a pattern etched into ultra-thin rubber - gives an extra-sticky grip in key traction areas and allows for better board-feel.

Thin, textured rubber along the lateral and medial sides of the boot increase durability in high-abrasion areas. The Surf Boot Hi is also engineered with a heel pull, and a neoprene checkerboard-print high ankle to keep water out - a few examples of how every inch and every stitch have been crafted for comfort, performance and style. The boot is punctuated with Vans’ signature Sidestripe and heel scab.

Vans’ Surf Boot Hi is now available.

The Check the Technique Collection is rooted in versatility

At the core of Vans is versatility. A Sk8-Hi can be worn with anything, in any setting, and still look good. Same goes for a number of other classic Vans styles. It’s this versatility, combined with timeless designs that elevates the product to a new level of wearability and global popularity.

Designed with a similar focus on versatility plus a heightened attention to detail, is Vans’ new Check the Technique apparel collection. Focusing on smart silhouettes crafted with premium, textured materials and elevated fabrication techniques, the capsule is both on-trend and ahead of the curve.

The collection is anchored by pieces like the heavyweight cotton, collarless Unionvale Jacket, complete with a zip-front closure and oversized pockets and the heavyweight Brandis Tee in black with a printed logo on the chest. The broken twill pleated McCahon Pant ignites the spirit of the 90’s with a loose fit, cropped inseam and wider leg opening.

Standout apparel pieces include the white Hewitt Quarter Zip Polo, crafted of heavyweight compact jersey with a rib collar, color-blocked chest panel and printed logo.

The collection features eight additional apparel silhouettes, including a reversible shearling jacket, short and long sleeve tees, button-downs, a quarter zip fleece hoodie, a sling bag and a backpack.

The Check the Technique apparel collection is available now.
